OUR STORY
Ann and Alex met in the Iowa State University Pep band in the spring of 2008. Ann played the piccolo and Alex played the saxophone. They knew each other through common interests and friends for the next year and a half, but it wasn’t until the fall of 2009, however, when they really started to get to know each other. They started seeing more and more of each other until Alex asked Ann on their first “date”, an invite to go to a band party together. Ann later said she found that really weird since “no one asks someone to a band party”. Their first real date happened in early November 2009, were they went to sushi at Fuji Grill in Ames, Iowa, and soon after started dating on Nov. 16, 2009. During their relationship Ann went off to Spain for study abroad for a month spanning late June and early July. Alex knew during this time he had found the girl for him and started searching for the perfect engagement ring. He eventually proposed on Dec. 21, 2010 at the top of the Hancock Tower during their trip to Chicago. Since their engagement, Alex has been in Ames, IA pursuing his graduate degree in Organic Chemistry and Ann has been pursuing her career as a process engineer supporting global gum initiatives both in Rockford, Il and now Whippany, NJ. Even though they have been apart during most of their relationship, Ann and Alex say it has brought them closer together and reaffirmed their desire to get married.
